Iâ??m sitting in the living room trying to get ready for my interview with Impaled Nazarene in a few days when there is a knock at my front door. Iâ??ve been so busy trying to prep for the interview that I had completely forgotten that I was going to have a few friends over for drinks tonight. I open the door to greet my guests tickled by the funny looks on their faces hearing they are slapped in the face by guitars and Sluti666 screaming on my stereo. I guess this is the part where I must inform you that while the group sitting in my living room may be among some of my closest friends, but they are by far the most â??normalâ? people that I know. More hip-hop and R&B than Goth and Death Metal, but I donâ??t hold that against them. I donâ??t bother to explain what theyâ??re hearing cause they already know who I am and what I like and over the years have learned to just deal with it. While they are trying to sort out what the fuck I could be listening to this time Iâ??m just happy that there are always booze at my house and tonight will not be a complete disappointment. Iâ??m in the kitchen making martinis when Nisha (the most up tight person of the group) picks up Imaplaed Nazareneâ??s bio from my coffee table. As I walk into the living room with drinks I notice her eyes are wide with what I can only guess is fear of what she has just read. She calls my name looking up at me from her place on the floor â??Are these guys youâ??re working with REALLY Satan worshipers?â? â??I donâ??t knowâ? I reply calmly â??read the bio your guess is as good as mineâ? her mouth drops in horror as I pass out drinks. â??Donâ??t you even care?â? she yells at me. â??Not really I reply as long as they rockâ? from there I move on with my almost neglected hostess duties. A few days later I relay her reaction to Sluti666.Laughing he says, â??Maybe we should sign her Bible?â? he asks, â??Fuck yeahâ? yeah I scream â??and make sure you put some pentagrams in there!â? from that moment on I knew this was going to be a kick ass interview.

For the past 15 years Impaled Nazarene has been wreaking havoc all over the world with their brand of dark destructive metal. Rumors of Satan worship and all manner of bullshit have followed the band almost since their inception because of their lyrics and the general ignorance of the masses They have had the secret police of a few countries follow them around while on tour and prevent the sale of any merchandise that had Satanic images and keeping them from announcing songs with any blasphemies in them. Here we are a few days away from the release of their ninth studio album Pro Patatria Finlandia and there are already magazines in Germany who wont interview the band because they feel the album title is Fascist. When you think about how much controversy surrounds the boys from Finland on an almost constant basis its amazing that they have been able to keep putting out so much killer material for so long with bowing down to the powers that be like so many bands do or just throwing it in altogether. However Sluti666 and the rest of the band take all the drama in stride â??As long as paying attention to the band, we are doing something rightâ? Sluti666 said with an evil grin in his voice. â??Still,â? he continued, â?? we are living in 2006, I had always imagined that at this time we wouldnâ??t have to worry about all of this religion and censorship, but it seems to be getting worse.â? Unfortunately when it comes to religion and censorship I fear he may be right. While touring in Italy a while ago a right wing Catholic group called the PaPa Boys went to the local city council to keep the band from playing in the local clubs. The council threatened to pull the liquor licenses if they allowed the band to play there. â??What else were they going to doâ? Sluti666 said relaying the story, â??they cancelled the shows, but luckily our promoter had balls! He told the bars to fuck off; if they wouldnâ??t let Impaled Nazarene play he would find someone who wouldâ?. Within days the band was all over the Italian newspapers, people all over were debating if they should be allowed to play. The band leaked the story to the papers back in Finland and the whole thing ended up being one of the best pieces of free publicity any band could ever hope for.
While there is no end to the drama the seems to follow Impaled Nazarene its good to know that it doesnâ??t stop them from putting out some of the most evil and demonic metal ever to shatter an eardrum! And their new disc Pro Patria Finlandia is probably their best work to date. â??This album is much better produced and probably one of our bestâ? Sluti666 agreed. Using their live soundman Tapio may have been the biggest difference in this and their other work; â??heâ??s been with us for three years and knows how to get the best performance from each of us.â? They also recorded this on different than all the others, while listening to their last album Sluti666 noticed that he sounded much better on the live album. So he approached Tapio with the idea of instead of using just a regular studio mic to sing into he used the same mics he uses on stage and recorded the whole disc like a live performance. Jumping, running and screaming like a mad man. And the results are fucking killer. Not only does Sluti666 sound great, but also the band has added a lot more melody and hooks to their kick in the balls sound making it even better. Pro Patria Finlandia hits the US April 18th so pick it up and you wont be disappointed.
