To the best of my knowledge BTK is the first bio-pic on the BTK Killer. A serial killer that worked in Wichita, KS for the better part of 30 years. While this may be the first BTK film I'm sure its not going to be the last. A guy that kills undetected for that long is probably going to have films made about him for decades to come. Unless we all suddenly loose our sick fascination with humans of this ilk, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.BTK is an interesting film because its part Bio-pic and part fiction. And while there are portions where they take severe liberty withBTK and his crimes they never let you forget that he was a seriously creepy dude. Who is all kinds of fucked up.
With this film the producers have opted to take some of the real life scary out of BTK and replace it ample amounts of blood and guts. which is somewhat disappointing. Because part of what makes a guy like this so scary is how normal his everyday life. The way he walked around everyday doing his job like the rest of us and then killing with impunity at night. Where the extra gore may not really have been needed in this one, they did a great job of showing what a douche bag this bag was when he wasn't killing. I cant help but wonder ifBTK would have been a bit nicer in his daily life, maybe his wife would have been down with his freaky bondage games. Hence eliminating the need to kill. The guy was a Compliance Officer for fucks sake. His job was to make sure that every ones grass is the same length and no one blocks the side walk. You have to be a serious control freak douche bag to take a job like that and like it. The way they show how he used his job to stalk his victims was very well done and really illustrated how scaryBTK was.
If your true crime fan you make take some issue with the way this film strays from real life events and real crimes. But this movie isn't really about the crimes themselves. And more about making you feel insecure and scared that freaks like this are walking the streets are right now. They are Compliance Officers, repair men, cops whatever. Hiding in plain sight looking to strike at any moment. So if you're able to get past the occasional inaccuracy and get into the suspense of the thingBTK is a good time.
