3.0

When they stay away from the standard Industrial beats and bass lines Schwarblunt is capable of some amazing shit. They have a flair for the dramatic and great vocals. That add an air of creepy Divine as they blend with samples of a demented circus. But sadly they seem to feel more comfortable in the realm of rehearsed beats and synth lines and don't break out the good stuff too often on this album. Which is a bit disappointing because a little bit more of their dramatic experimental madness would have bumped this album up from alright to fucking awesome!

And One
Bodypop 1 1/2
Metropolis Records

I have developed a love hate relationship with the new album from And One. Well maybe hate is too strong of a word. More like love and disappointment. The first half ofBodypop 1 1/2 is brilliant. Smooth seductive synth pop delivered with yummy baritones. And great lyrics, especially on the track paddy is my DJ. I haven't a clue who Paddy is but where ever he is spinning I need to be there. They paint such a lovely picture of a mid week dance session that I am now trying to sort out if there are any viable dance spots for my own Wednesday evening. Its the second half of the album where things get a little weak. Its almost exclusively live covers. They break out some gems I haven't thought of in ages like A-Ha's The Sun Always Shines on TV which is cool. And pipes like these can make just about any song sound good. But for all of their skills all And One  doesn't accomplish much with their live  covers. All I want to do after hearing them do Pet Shop Boys is break out my tapes. Which isn't a bad thing perse, but when I listen to a great band live I want to hear them not just covers

Holy fuck, is this a massive album. Its like they got every Industrial band, remixer, vocalist, etc in Europe together to do something somewhere. Luckily for us this pretty decent comp series. Which makes the sheer enormity of the thing much easier to deal with. The album has its fair share of good, bad and mediocre tracks on it. VolIV's Government Stomp isn't too much more than the run of the mill mix of glitchy synth dropped over bass lines. But there is some good stuff in there Like Cylab's Dragonfly Dream and Face Down. A Industrial cover of the 2 Live Crew classic, always puts a smile on my face. Because there is nothing like some bass driven smut to keep the day going. While the size of the album can be a bit off putting there is enough good stuff on there to keep you bouncing in Industrialdevilishness throughout the day.

Chronicles of a Dying era
Epochate
Metropolis Records
3.5

From beginning to end Chronicles of a Dying Era is a stunning album. Blending the best of all the is Doom, Alternative and Metal into one package. Thesynths on this album are so tight that they mike it feel as if the band is playing with a full string section. Followed with some pretty insane drumming that feels like a mix of tribal destruction and sophisticatedsavagery . And when they mix with the ragged venerability of the vocals it brings a tinge of hope to the heavy guitars and bass. Adding a bit of levity to the dark atmosphere. Chronicles of a Dying era engulfs you in a wall of suffering and pummels you with giant fists of sound before releasing you into the light of day. Still its not all doom and gloom on this one, they give you just enough light at the end of the musical tunnel to bring you past the albums heavy nature. And into a place filled with dismal happiness.

The Fall Version 2
Metropolis Records
3.0

The remix album has been done to death. At this point if you've heard one you've probably heard them all. Still no matter how stale the idea of mixing the same song over and over may be, you can still find some decent stuff on a mix album. Thus is the case with Cesium 137's The Fall Version 2. Where the Matrix remix is just your standard dance floor fair, with throbbing bass lines and stinging high hats. Its theGASR remix that has the most personality to it. Using static voice effects and cascading synths to give the song a haunting disjointed feel. The Ep version of Burned by the Light is a another gem on this album. The synths are smooth delicious sin weaving through under tows of aggression as " fucking bitch" screams in loops throughout. The vox are a bit more understated driven down to a mere whisper in some places giving you time to really appreciate the songs movements as if flows from dance jam to seductress.
