Ectomag Fri, 11 Nov 2016 22:58:26 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Adaestuo Brings Creeping Horror Tue, 11 Oct 2016 01:59:44 +0000 In the crowded field of Metal subgenres, up and coming bands need to bring much more than their A game. They need to bring nothing less than sonic perfection every day. Crawling from the depths of the unknown, Adaestuo is bringing a level magic and mastery of the left-hand path that is rare for a debut album.

“Destroyer of Constellations (Niszczycielem Gwiazdozbiorow)”, is the first single from Adestuo’s Tacent Semitae.  It is six minutes of gut-churning, unyielding black metal that grabs you by the throat, pulls you into the abyss and I loved every fucking minute of it. Tacent Semitae drops on November 11th on W.T.C Records.

Roots Amazes and Confuses with new Single Tue, 11 Oct 2016 01:30:28 +0000 I am a huge fan of concepts albums, but I’m not sure what Roots is trying to say with their upcoming album “Kärgeräs – Return From Oblivion.” This album is supposed to pick up where their 1986 album Kärgeräs left off; with the story of a proud nation. It isn’t clear if these are songs surrounding their native Czech Republic or if we’re dealing with stories of a fictional country. Despite the concept behind Kärgeräs – Return From Oblivion isn’t clear, I love the first single from the album. Life of Demon.

“Kärgeräs – Return From Oblivion”  is scheduled to drop on Agonia on November 25th.

Teloch Vovin Prepare for Fall Equinox with Psalms Ov Khaos IV Fri, 16 Sep 2016 01:55:19 +0000 Ah fall! The leaves are changing, the air is cool and crisp. Coffee shops are whipping all manner of pumpkin flavored confections. Fuck that noise! What really matter this fall is that Teloch Vovin will bring Psalms Ov Khaos IV-A Ritual In Transfigured Time to the masses on September 22nd.  The fourth installment of their Psalms Ov Khaos IV series “A Ritual Transfigured in Time” is designed to bring the appropriate ritual darkness to the changing of the seasons.

While I am absolutely excited about the latest installment of Psalms Ov Khaos, I was a bit taken aback to find out that vocalist Aeshma Shemyaza has been “dismissed with dishonor” but Teloch Vovin. No word on what that is supposed to mean, but here’s hoping that Teloch Vovin find a new singer soon and Aeshma Shemyazahas nothing but success in her future endeavors.

Psalms Ov Khaos IV-A Ritual In Transfigured Time drops on September 22nd.

Deranged Drops First New Song from Struck by a Murderous Siege Wed, 14 Sep 2016 03:17:33 +0000 After a five year break, Deranged is back with a new album and it is brutal is fuck. “Reverent Decomposition” is the first track on Struck by a Murderous Siege. This song  rages with the kind of nasty, savagery that brings to mind some of the best kills of my favorite horror movies.  Here is what Deranged main man, Thomas Ahlgren has to say about Stuck by a Murderous Seige.

“The new Deranged album, titled “Struck by a murderous siege” is a blend of classical Deranged brutality with a bit of new elements that will fit perfectly both old and new Deranged fans. You can be sure about that! The album, consisting of five fast, grinding and shredding songs and three heavy mid-tempo tunes, will give the listener the most interesting and varied Deranged album so far. Prepare to hear the echoes of serial killers and brutality!”

Struck by a Murderous Siege drops on October 28th via Agonia Records. But until the record drops, fill your ears with “Reverent Decomposition”.

Bölzer Is My Magical Hero Tue, 13 Sep 2016 04:26:10 +0000 The sonic power of Bölzer never ceases to amaze me. It is almost unbelievable that so much power and brutality can come from two people. Sometimes when I listen to Bölzer I find myself scouring the liner notes and videos for additional musicians that I know I will never find. But after 6years and 9 epic songs of searching, I have resigned myself to accept that what Bölzer does is nothing short of magic.

Now Bölzer is taking their sonic sorcery to the next level with the release of their fist full-length album Hero. This album is a bit cleaner than what we are used to getting from Bölzer, but the results are still nothing short of magical. Hero drops on Iron Bonehead Reconds on November 25th. Until the album drops, you can check out the lead single I Am Ill on the Bölzer Soundcloud page.

Enslaved to Release The Sleeping Gods-Thorn in November Thu, 08 Sep 2016 02:43:28 +0000 When a band has been around as long as Enslaved, there are bound to be something interesting things floating around in their legendary crates. I hope that The Sleeping Gods-Thorn is going to be the first of many rarities that Enslaved will be releasing in the next few years.

Created out of experimental material from 2010-2011, The Sleeping Gods-Thorn is an amalgamation of rites that  connect back to Enslaved’s early days. Sung in English, Norwegian and Old Norse The Sleeping Gods-Thorn explores the old gods and contrasts them to the larger world religions that plague us today.

enslaved will be a limited release vinyl pressed by the good folks at ByNorse Music on November 11th.

New Video from Frozen Ocean Drops into Mysterious Waters Thu, 01 Sep 2016 02:45:44 +0000

With fall on the horizon and the end of the LA summer nowhere in sight, Frozen Oceans’ video for No Blizzard is a soothing feast for the senses.  Frozen Oceans’ blackened metal mixed with the cooling visuals of the frozen Pacific Ocean are the perfect way to soothe heat fried senses.

No Blizzard is the lead single for Frozen Oceans’ newest EP, “The Prowess Of Dormition”.  Apocalyptic Witchcraft hasn’t set a release date for  “The Prowess Of Dormition” yet, but at least we have these lovely frozen images to cling to.

PG. Lost Premier “Ikaros” Fri, 26 Aug 2016 02:43:26 +0000 This week the post-rock collective PG. Lost premier “Ikaros”, the first track from their September 16 release Versus. “Ikaros” was the first song written for Versus, and it’s dark, brooding melancholy has set the tone for the entire album.

Bassist “The song ‘Ikaros’ is a step into a world where a rougher and more mature PG Lost are joined with large and growling analog synths. ‘Ikaros’ was the first song written for the album Versus and has set the tone for the album in its entirety.”

And without further ado, I bring you “Ikaros”.

You can pre-order Versus Pelagic Records and the album drops on September 16th.

Gargoyle Has Been Reborn in Blasphemy Fri, 26 Aug 2016 02:05:11 +0000 When I saw that Gargoyle borrowed the old Dismember song “Reborn in Blasphemy” for their debut EP I expected to hear something that smacked of 90s death metal. Instead, I was slapped in the face with some of the most original doom metal I have heard in a very long time. Gargoyle are heavy, oppressive, dark and a little bit weird, just like good doom should be. Reborn in Blasphamy is set to drop on Shadow Kingdom Records on October 31st. But don’t wait until then to get some of this doom laden goodness into your ears. Check out “The Highlander” on the Gargoyle Bandcamp page.
